(Libro usado 202) The exhibition. “Young Costa Rican artists> Nine Proposals”, surveys the latest developments in Costa Rican art. Nine artists, all living in Costa Rica, were selected out of thirty-four who responded to an open call launched in July on 2006 by the IDB Cultural Center and the Foundation of the Central Bank Museums of Costa Rica. The selection criteria called for artists forty years of age or younger, who had at least one individual show, and had participated in a minimum of three group exhibitions. After reviewing the portfolios presented in the round, and interviewing many of the artists, a final selection was made by the curators of the IDB Cultural Center and the Foundation of the Central Bank Museums. The artists are: Víctor Agüero, Jorge Albán, Tamara Ávalos León, Paco Cervilla, Carlina Guillermet, José Alberto Hernández, Sebastián Mello, Francisco Munguía, and Guillermo Vargas. The outcome could not have been more encouraging and eclectic and, as a result, works include installation and interactive digital art, digital graphics, conventional photography, ceramics, painting, wire drawing and design objects manufactured with recycled materials.
